Rocky Mountain Wild: Alaska-Focused Evening in Boulder Features Screening of The Wild, Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar Wild Salmon Dinner, Live Music

Backpacker’s Pantry Wild Salmon Center , and Eva’s Wild present a special evening of the award-winning documentary The Wild with a VR experience and special guest appearance from filmmaker Mark Titus, a wild food and beverage pairing from Jax Fish House and live music from an Alaskan folk group on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021 at eTown Hall in Boulder, Colo. from 6-9:30 p.m.

The Wild, a national award-winning feature film that won Best Documentary at the 2019 Breckenridge Film Festival, is a race against time, where the hard-fought-for/hard-won protections for Bristol Bay seem as fleeting. Focused through the lens of Titus’ inherent love for wild salmon, the conflict in Alaska becomes a harbinger to a larger, global question: How do we reconcile human separation from the natural world that sustains us – and if we can change course – how do we save what remains?

The evening will begin with special live music performed by Alaskan folk group, Sunny Porch Collective, led by fifth-generation indigenous Bristol Bay fisherman and activist, Melanie Brown. A Wild Salmon Dinner will then be prepared by Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar Boulder Executive Chef Sheila Lucero, featuring Bristol Bay Sockeye Salmon from Eva’s Wild . Beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages are also included in the ticket price.

“The Wild explores how the story of salmon is not just about protecting a vital food source, but also about connecting to that which is bigger than ourselves, in order to save ourselves, and examines what it means to save what we love.” – Alaska Native News

Following the film, recyclable VR goggles with access to a Bristol Bay virtual-reality experience will be provided alongside a live panel discussion to punctuate an urgent call to action for Bristol Bay. Special guests include The Wild filmmaker Mark Titus and University of Colorado Boulder film graduate and The Wild Producer John W. Comerford, president of Paradigm Studio, a production company.

Tickets are $45 and can be purchased on Eventbrite. Proceeds from the evening’s ticket sales will benefit the Defend Bristol Bay Coalition led by United Tribes of Bristol Bay. Mandatory for entry: proof of vaccine or negative covid test within the last 72 hours.
